The Indonesian National Monument (MONAS) is located in Merdeka Square, or Freedom Square. MONAS is located in a large park, which many families seem to congregate on the weekends.
The monument is to commemorate Indonesian independence from the Dutch.
The top of the monument is designed to look like a flame.
You can go to the top of MONAS to get a better view of the city.
There is also an independence room with Indonesian symbols.
The National History Museum is located in the basement of the monument. The museum outlines Indonesian life through time.
I did not go to the top of the monument, independence room, or the National History Museum as lines were rather long. I did not feel like waiting in the sweltering heat and high humidity.
