The Canteen Taphouse and Tavern is located on Main Street in Breckenridge, CO. We were looking for somewhere to eat somewhat late at night and options were very limited, as only a few places were open.
After a quick check on Yelp!, it seemed that The Canteen Taphouse and Tavern would fit the bill.
The Seared Ahi Salad ($13) was a large bowl of mixed greens with nicely seared pieces of ahi. The ahi was flavorful and meaty, and was devoid of sinew. The greens were fresh and crisp, and the wonton chips added a nice textural contrast.
The Grilled Salmon ($23) was a little skimpy on portion size, but was cooked to a nice medium rare. The Bok Choy was nicely crisp and the cream cheese wontons were nicely fried.
The Rib Plate and 10 oz. Ribeye ($31) was a generous portion of baby back ribs that were fall off the bone tender. The sauce was not overly sweet, which I appreciate. The ribeye steak was buried underneath the mountain of ribs. The steak was well seasoned and cooked to a nice medium rare. The fries weren’t super crisp but were passable. The coleslaw help to cut through the fattiness of the ribs and steak.
The ‘Merica Burger ($13) contained a nicely cooked medium patty, topped with bacon that could have been crisper. Lettuce, tomatoes and onions were served on the side and were fresh and crisp. Once again the fries could have been a bit crisper.
The Canteen serves good, well prepared food with very reasonable prices given its resort location. I would gladly recommend this restaurant to anyone in the area looking for good solid food in a casual atmosphere.
