Tambuah Mas Restaurant is located within the Paragon Shopping Centre on Orchard Road. Specializing in “Indonesian Homestyle Cuisine” one would expect familiar dishes associated with Indonesian food and Tambuah Mas does not disappoint in that regard.


We started off with Emping, which is made from melinjo nuts, then turned into a cracker which is deep fried. The cracker is crispy and slightly bitter, and was served with salted peanuts.

Next up was Gado Gado, a salad made of cooked vegetables, tofu, hard boiled eggs and topped with a peanut sauce dressing. The salad was topped with more emping crackers. The salad was good, but the peanut dressing could have had more flavor.


Rendang is a beef curry made with coconut milk and tons of spices. While most versions I have had are on the spicier side, this one was actually a little sweet which I was not a fan of. The beef was tender however.

The Tahu Telor, a tower of fried tofu and scrambled eggs was much better than the version we had earlier in our trip at Ayam Penyet Restaurant. This version was less greasy and crunchier.

My wife ordered Paru Goreng. When it came to the table I wasn’t really paying attention as it reminded of Thai beef jerky at a glance. I ate one, still not really paying attention to the dish and thought it tasted kind of dry with not a lot of flavor. I then ate another one and wasn’t really impressed. In retrospect, it was probably like chewing on a scab, dry and crunchy. It was after eating the second piece that I asked my wife what this was, and she said deep fried beef lung. Ah, a far cry from Thai beef jerky, LOL.

Although Tambuah Mas does serve familiar Indonesian dishes, to me it kind of missed the mark, especially with the rendang which is my favorite Indonesian dish.
